Brave

Derfel's current Primal Companion: a dog, and the third in a line following Dave (RIP) and Maeve (RIP). Athas is hostile to animal life and companion dogs are rare enough to mark their owner as someone who still has the capacity for attachment. Brave acts on Derfel's turn when commanded, and can knock targets prone with his bite.

• Derfel: devoted companion; Derfel is quietly but deliberately protective of him after losing Dave and Maeve
• Her: unusual bond for a mute Mul; Brave seeks her out during conversation and she responds

History

• Dave: Derfel's first companion dog. Lost on Athas.
• Maeve: Derfel's second companion dog. Killed in Episode 10 when three ranged attackers focused her down in two rounds. Derfel got revenge.
• Brave: Current companion. Ten episodes in. In Episode 11 he was sent ahead during the slums crossing as a distraction and early warning, the plan being that a bark in the distance would signal trouble.
